Four Expert Honeymoon Planning Tips

Your honeymoon is one of the most exciting trips of your life – an excuse to travel anywhere in the world with the one you love most – what more could you ask for? At Exclusively Weddings, we are all about sipping piña coladas on the beach with an epic sunset in the background, so that’s why we’ve put together a few expert tips to make sure your honeymoon is unforgettable.

Adventure vs. Relaxation

After months of stressful wedding planning, you deserve this break in a big way. But there’s one more planning decision to make – where your week in paradise will be spent! If you are exhausted from the wedding, the last thing you may want to do is go, go, go. Or, maybe you’re the type that gets bored of a lounge chair after a few hours and wants to travel somewhere more adventurous. Whatever you decide, we definitely recommend doing a mix of both adventure and relaxation during your time there. If you are bon voyaging to a tropical island, try to schedule a zip lining, hiking or sightseeing tour while you are there. Or, if you are embarking on a European city-hopping excursion, make sure to schedule a day or two for pure relaxation, too.

Just remember that your honeymoon is a perfect excuse to travel somewhere you may never get to go again, so we definitely recommend taking advantage of that. Plus, the city, country or island that you travel to for your honeymoon will always hold a special place in your heart – so why not go somewhere you’ve never been before?

Evaluate Length of Travel Time

While you may have always dreamed of relaxing at an over water hut off the coast of Bora Bora, keep in mind that if you only have a limited amount of time for your honeymoon, you may not want to spend the first and last 36 hours of your trip traveling. Traveling is exhausting, stressful and not always glamorous, especially when there are red-eye flights involved. And depending on your location, not only will it take a while to get to Hawaii, Greece or the South Pacific, but the time zone difference can really throw you off for the first few days of your trip. Go where you heart desires, but also be realistic. An exotic trip to Fiji may not be ideal if you only have 6 days for your trip.

Be Prepared

Make sure to pack your sunnies, sunblock and adorable personalized sunhat – because you won’t be able to enjoy the glorious couples massage that your maid of honor gifted you with a nasty sunburn. Plus, the last thing you’ll want is to ruin all of your honeymoon pictures with peeling skin and raccoon eyes. Also, if you are traveling out of the country, make sure to pack a mini first-aid kit full of all of the medicine you may not be able to get abroad – even just over-the-counter items like ibuprofen or eye-drops, since you may not feel totally comfortable using a foreign brand that you are unfamiliar with (or can’t even read the label of).

Make Sure to Take Pictures

Many honeymooners are so caught up in newlyweded bliss that they completely forget to snap a few pictures. Sure, there will be a few Instagram posts of the Caribbean sunset or Italian countryside, but don’t forget to take a few pictures of you and your husband together, too. Since it’s only the two of you on this trip, don’t be afraid to ask random bystanders, your waiters or tour guides to help you out (unless your selfie game is strong, of course).  These photos will definitely be moments in time that you’ll want to capture and that you will cherish for the rest of your life.
