A Social Proposal
My fiance, Adam and I work for the same company, Mashable, a top social media blog. He's the COO and I'm the managing editor, and because we work out of our home office, I like to think there's very little I don't know about. But it turns out he was able to surprise me after all.
Last summer we collaborated on The Summer of Social Good, a project that raised money and awareness for charities online. The 3-month program culminated in a conference at New York's 92nd Street Y -- a favorite place of mine and the location of many of our early dates as a couple. During his closing remarks at the conference, Adam brought our staff up on stage and asked me to come closer. He proclaimed that this was our true anniversary and that he had hidden friends and family among the crowd; and with that he got down on his knee and presented me with my ring in front of a clapping crowd who quickly rushed to Twitter to share the special news.
As soon as we walked offstage we realized he had never actually popped the question, so in front of our co-workers and friends he did the whole thing over again and I said "YES!"

It was GREAT! On stage, in front of a full Social Media Conference audience, Adam hid his aims by starting off complimenting the whole staff! He continued by recognizing Sharon. Then the whole audience started a collective shriek, howl, hoot & applaud and jumped to their feet when he reached back into his pocket while holding her other hand... and dropped to his knee. How chivalrous! Laptops were already out, iPhones popped and Twitter & the web were flooded with the live streaming video! Brave, Adam!
I love the idea of a media proposal and think it's a riot that he forgot to propose. Glad that it got done in the end!
