Nothing Goes Right

Dan and I have the typical high school love story gone wrong. We have dated off and on for years (7 to be exact). It wasn’t until we both miraculously became single in Nov 2009 that we realized what we have been missing. After the death of a close friend later that month, we decided that if we were going to go through with this relationship… It had to be forever. We couldn’t take the heartache again. During our time of loss we fell on each other. We needed each other to get through everything. I finally had my best friend back. Boy had I missed him. In June 2009 we decided to visit the Smoky Mountains. After plenty on planning and counting down, we were on our way. The weather was perfect and boy did we have big plans! Once we arrived, sat in traffic, and sleepily crawled into the hotel bed, we were out for the night. To our surprise, the next morning it was raining. We turned on the weather channel to find that it would be raining a lot! All of our plans had to change. No long hikes in the mountains. No romantic walks through town. We would be spending a lot of time in the hotel. That morning Dan ran down to the car to grab a few things and ice out of the machine for our drinks. When he came back he handed me the ice bucket. I didn’t open it for a while. It didn’t even cross my mind that he hadn’t taken his eyes off of the ice bucket. I finally walked over and opened it… RING! WHAT!? He put the ring in the ice bucket. When I turned around to the bed he was sitting there with tears in his eyes. “Will you marry me?” YES!!! Later he told me that he had planned to do the “down on one knee” thing on a mountain by a waterfall, but that wouldn’t be fun. That wouldn’t be like our relationship. It is full of improvising! I wouldn’t want it any other way. In October 2010 I will marry my soul mate, my best friend for life.
