Holiday Surprise
Each year before Christmas, Justin and I choose one Saturday as our "Christmas Shopping Day". We began this tradition when we first started dating 4 years ago and make a point to go out each year. We try to get most of our Christmas shopping done, and as we are shopping we pick out a special ornament for the year. After that task is done, we go out to dinner and then out to the HUGE Christmas lights display in the park right on the Mississippi. There are millions of lights and various displays- it has become one of my favorite parts of Christmas! We end the night by snuggling up with a favorite Christmas movie.
Last year was no different. We got most of our Christmas shopping done and picked out a cute ornament for our tree. After shopping we went out to eat and headed to the lights display by the river. It was surprisingly warm and we walked around the park to see the lights. Afterward, we returned to the car and tried to decide what to do next. Justin really wanted to drive across the river to look at the display from across the river. I didn't really understand this sudden desire, but went along "if we had to". We drove across the river and stopped to look at the lights. Justin seemed way more interested than I was! I finally convinced him that we had seen enough and we began to drive out of the park.
As we drove out, we went past a huge gazebo with a small lit Christmas tree inside. Justin was curious about it and said we should get out and look. I was very confused and told Justin to get back in the car. He said that I should really come look at it. I finally agreed to get out of the car and walked up to the gazebo. There were Christmas lights on the outside and a little path made of lights leading up to the Christmas tree. As I got closer, I noticed that the tree looked familiar. I finally realized that all the ornaments on the tree were the ones we had picked out together the last four years and the picture on the tree was of us! There was a small present under the tree and Justin told me to open it. Inside was another ornament. There were two bears labeled "Sarah" and "Justin"- the Justin bear was on one knee with a ring in his hand! When I turned around to ask him about it, he was on one knee with a ring of his own! He asked me to marry him, and I said yes!
